Buy Acnecide UK | What is Acnecide Gel?

Acnecide is a topical acne treatment, which is available as a gel and face wash. Acne can develop anywhere on your body, but it most commonly occurs on your face, back, neck, chest and shoulders. It causes spots, oily skin and can sometimes make the skin feel quite hot/irritated or painful to touch.

How does Acnecide work?

Acnecide contains the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, which is a type of medicine that is known as a keratolytic. It works by breaking down a protein found in the skin called keratin, which forms part of the skins structure. The application of benzoyl peroxide on your skin helps to unblock the sebaceous glands, which are small oil-producing glands that are attached to hair follicles. These glands release a fatty substance called sebum, which is important for keeping the skin healthy and moisturised.

However, if you have overactive sebaceous glands, that means they are producing excess sebum. This abundance of sebum can clog pores and provides an ideal feeding source for acne-causing bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. These organisms feed on the sebum in the hair follicles and excrete a substance which causes inflammation in the surrounding tissues. It is this excreted inflammatory substances which is believed to be the cause of acne.

Benzoyl peroxide also causes the top layer of skin cells to break down and start to shed. This helps to clear blackheads and whiteheads, known as comedones, and helps to prevent new comedones from forming on your skin. The antiseptic properties of Acnecide help to reduce the amount of bacteria on the surface of the skin.

How do I use Acnecide?

Acnecide gel should be applied directly to the affected areas of skin once or twice daily. You should always wash your hands before and after applying the gel. Remember to use Acnecide as prescribed by your doctor. The following steps are advised when using Acnecide:

Wash your skin thoroughly with a mild cleanser.

Pat the skin dry.

Apply a thin layer to the affected areas of skin.

Leave the area to dry.

Avoid applying the gel to broken or damaged areas of skin.

When applying Acnecide to the face, avoid getting the gel in contact with the eyes, mouth and nostrils. If the gel comes into contact with any of these areas, wash the area thoroughly with water to remove the gel. Benzoyl peroxide can be irritating to your skin. If you experience extreme redness or peeling of your skin after applying Acnecide gel, you should use less gel and apply it less frequently. If soreness persists then stop using the gel temporarily and consult your doctor. Do not use Acnecide more than needed.

Using more Acnecide will not treat your acne any faster, but may increase the chance of causing side effects, such as skin irritation. Benzoyl peroxide is a bleaching agent and can lighten skin tone with prolonged use. Take care to prevent the gel coming into contact with fabrics as it can discolour them.

After applying benzoyl peroxide, you should try to avoid exposure to strong sunlight or UV rays, such as sunbeds. If exposure to sunlight is unavoidable, you should apply an adequate amount of sunscreen and use Acnecide in the evening.

Side effects & precautions

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual users in different ways. Not everyone who uses Acnecide will experience the possible side effects. Many users of the gel did not experience any of the possible side effects.

  2. Irritation of the skin after application of the gel, such as burning sensation or redness.
  3. The following are the common side effects of Acnecide gel:
  4. Irritant contact dermatitis
  5. Stinging or itching of the skin

If you experience any other side effects, which you believe might be associated with your use of Acnecide gel, contact your doctor.

Acnecide gel is for external use only.

Do not use Acnecide gel if you are allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any other ingredient of the gel.

Acnecide gel can increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid going outdoors while using this medication. Always wear sunscreen and protective clothing every time you will go outdoors.

Any contact of Acnecide with any coloured material, including hair and dyed fabrics, may result in bleaching or discolouration.

As with all other medicines, you should consult first with your doctor before using Acnecide gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Studies have not shown any harmful effects when Acnecide gel is used by pregnant women or by a breastfeeding mother.

If you will use Acnecide gel while breastfeeding, make sure not to apply the gel to the area where it could be transferred to the baby’s skin while you are breastfeeding.

It is necessary that you get the advice of your doctor before you use Acnecide gel in combination with other anti-acne treatments.

If you use Acnecide gel together with other topical treatments for acne, the chance of experiencing dryness of the skin will be more likely.

Avoid using other medicines that contain also benzoyl peroxide. Using two medicines of the same active ingredient will increase your risk of side effects.
