What Is Duac?
This medicine contains two active ingredients called, clindamycin phosphate and benxoyl peroxide. These two medicines are both used to treat acne.
Clindamycin is a known antibiotic. This antibiotic is used to treat infections with bacteria. It prevents bacteria from producing protein, which are vital for their growth. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow and increase in numbers. As a result, the bacteria eventually die or are destroyed by the immune system.
Clindamycin helps to fight the bacteria associated with acne. Propionebacterium acne is a type of bacterium that lives off sebum produced by the sebaceous glands; they are located in the skin. This bacterium produces waste and fatty acids. Waste and fatty acids are detrimental to the skins appearance; they cause inflammation and spots on the skin.
