What Is Duac?

This medicine contains two active ingredients called, clindamycin phosphate and benxoyl peroxide. These two medicines are both used to treat acne.

Clindamycin is a known antibiotic. This antibiotic is used to treat infections with bacteria. It prevents bacteria from producing protein, which are vital for their growth. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow and increase in numbers. As a result, the bacteria eventually die or are destroyed by the immune system.

Clindamycin helps to fight the bacteria associated with acne. Propionebacterium acne is a type of bacterium that lives off sebum produced by the sebaceous glands; they are located in the skin. This bacterium produces waste and fatty acids. Waste and fatty acids are detrimental to the skins appearance; they cause inflammation and spots on the skin.

How do I use Duac?

Duac is available in a tube of 30g or 60g gel formation containing 5% of clindamycin phosphate and 1% of benzoyl peroxide.

You should use this medication exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Duac should be applied to the skin (face) once daily. If you are wearing any makeup, you must remove it before applying this treatment. The affected area should be washed and dried before application.

  • Dry carefully with a clean towel
  • Use a non-medicated wash to cleanse
  • Apply sparingly to the affected area
  • Wash and dry hands so as not to apply to unaffected areas of skin
  • Continue daily treatment for up to 12 weeks
