Spedra (also known by the generic name avanafil) is part of a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors, which are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by relaxing the muscles in the spongy tissue of the penis. This allows blood to flow freely upon sexual stimulation, causing an erection. Spedra can take effect within 15 minutes in some men and can be effective for up to six hours.
What is the difference between Viagra and Spedra?
Viagra contains the active ingredient sildenafil whereas Spedra contains avanafil. They are two completely different drugs, however they have a similar effect on the body.

How does Spedra work?
Spedra inhibits an enzyme called PDE5. This acts on cGMP, which is a substance that regulates blood-flow to the penis. In simpler terms, it relaxes the muscles in the veins that supply blood to the penis, increasing blood flow into the erectile tissue and making an erection possible during sexual excitation.
