Soolantra cream is a medicine used to treat pimples, spots and redness that are associated with the skin condition, rosacea.
The active ingredient in Soolantra Cream is ivermectin, which belongs to a group of medicines called avermectins. These kind of medicines have anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce the symptoms (such as redness and pimples) associated with rosacea.
Rosacea is a common disorder that mainly affects skin on the face, causing redness and small pimples. Over time, the redness can intensify and blood vessels may become visible. Sufferers treat their rosacea not only because of its physical effects but also the mental effects it can have, such as embarrassment and self-consciousness. Although the cause is not known, treating the condition with Soolantra is simple and effective.
Soolantra is a prescription-only medication. Always follow the advice of your doctor and read the patient information leaflet provided in the medication packet.
To apply, start by washing your face gently with warm water and mild soap and then pat dry with a towel. The cap on Soolantra cream is child-resistant, so you will need to push down and twist to open it. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of cream onto your fingertip, and then dab it onto the five main areas of your face; the forehead, nose, chin and both cheeks. Spread it gently and evenly across your whole face into a thin layer and then wash your hands after application.
Soolantra contains the active ingredient ivermectin, at a strength of 10mg per gram of cream.
The recommended dose is a pea-sized amount of gel, applied once daily. The duration of the treatment varies from person to person so be sure to follow your doctor’s advice and continue using the cream for as long as they tell you to. Results can take a few weeks to show but if nothing has changed after 3 months then consult your doctor for review of treatment.
If you forget to use your Soolantra cream, skip the forgotten dose and move straight onto the next one. Don’t worry but don’t double up on your dose to make up for a missed one.
If you use more Soolantra cream than you should, then contact your doctor for advice. If anyone accidentally swallows any then go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
