Circadin 2mg tablets are prescribed in the short-term to help people with sleep problems such as insomnia.
Whilst Circadin is only licensed to treat insomnia in the UK, it is also widely used to help people with jet lag adapt to a new time zone and sleep properly at night in a new destination.
How Does Circadin Work?
The active substance in Circadin is melatonin. This is one of the natural hormones produced by the body and it helps bring about sleep. Each of the prolonged-release tablets in this pack contains 2mg of melatonin.
Each Circadin tablet gradually releases the melatonin it holds throughout the night over the course of about 8-10 hours. They are particularly useful to those over the age of 55, since the production of melatonin decreases as a person ages.

How Do You Take Circadin?
You should always take Circadin as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended daily dose of Circadin 2 mg tablets is one tablet, swallowed whole with some water. You shouldn’t crush or chew the tablet. You should take Circadin after you have eaten and around 1-2 hours before going to bed. Take the first tablet on the day you arrive at your destination, and continue taking Circadin for no more than 5 days. Alcohol reduces the effectiveness of Circadin, so don’t drink anything alcoholic before, during, or after taking Circadin. Smoking also reduces the effectiveness of Circadin. Circadin can make you drowsy if you take more than the daily recommended dose. If you forget to take a dose, you should take it as soon as you remember, but you shouldn’t take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.
